Overview
Welcome to the Lake District and the Kimberly-Clark 74 Challenge Charity Cycle Ride. The event commences in Barrow, traverses the renowned Wrynose Pass—part of the Fred Whitton Challenge—and continues to Coniston before looping back to Barrow. Riders will experience some of the most scenic and memorable cycling terrain in the region.

What to Expect
This is a demanding route, primarily following side roads that offer breathtaking views across the Duddon Valley, Coniston Water and Morecambe Bay. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the shoreline of Coniston on their return journey from Coniston, making for an unforgettable cycling experience Wrynose Pass being the major challenge. Leaving Cockley Beck as you pedal along the bottom section, often referred to as "Wrynose Bottom", it becomes apparent that preparation is key for tackling the next stage of the Wrynose Pass. Although this approach is considered the easier of the two possible routes to the summit, it remains a formidable challenge for any cyclist.
The ascent to the summit from this point covers approximately 1,750 metres. As you continue, the gradient gradually increases, presenting a steady test of endurance and strength. The climb is deceptive; what begins gently soon intensifies, with the incline eventually reaching a peak gradient of nearly 25%. Riders must pace themselves carefully, as the severity of the slope becomes more pronounced near the top. On the descent it is steeper at the top and control is needed on the straighter sections and also steep tight bends as you descend into Little Langdale.

Route and Elevation
The course features several other steep ascents and sharp descents, taking riders through the Duddon Valley and reconnecting with our established 50-mile route at Coniston. To aid navigation, ride stickers—coloured green—will be displayed on street furniture such as lamp posts and finger posts throughout the route.
The ride involves 5977 feet of climbing including Broughton Moor 843 feet, Stickle Pike 833 feet, Wrynose Pass 1272 feet and Kirkby Moor 807 feet.
